SUMMARY:Volunteer Work Day: Native Food Planting
DESCRIPTION:CALLING ALL GREEN THUMBS!!! \nJoin us on Saturday\, November 14 at 9:00 AM to help bring the Longhouse Ecological Garden to life at the 1719 Museum\, 1849 Hans Herr Drive\, Willow Street\, PA 17584! This community-based project will celebrate Indigenous cultural plant uses\, support native wildlife\, and create a living landscape for cultural and ecological education.\n\nThe day’s ecological gardening activities at the Longhouse include (1) planting native American Hazelnuts and Black Chokeberries and (2) sheet mulching the first of two medicinal/edible pods with cardboard and woodchips.\nYou are invited to bring your favorite tools and gloves for digging in native shrubs and scooping woodchips. Please wear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather\, as we’ll be working outdoors for approximately 3 hours. Layers and work gloves are recommended!
