SUMMARY:Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month Longhouse Tours
DESCRIPTION:Drew Shuptar- Rayvis\, citizen of the Pocomoke Indian Nation\, will bring “Loyalty and Zeal: Algonkians of the Revolution” to the 1719 Museum on November 21\, 2026. Join Drew Shuptar-Rayvis to honor the contributions\, struggles and sacrifices made by Algonkian peoples during the War of American Independence. The program explores the unique material culture and trade objects\, the complex political paths of patriotism\, Toryism and neutrality trod by Algonkian and Haudenosaunee people as they worked to preserve their way of life in the face of overwhelming odds. Drew tells the stories of both the devastation of the Sullivan Campaign and the contributions of these people to the shape of history\, patriots and loyalists alike. The program is free flowing and dialogue based; visitors should buy timed tickets\, but may stay in the longhouse as long as they like. This program celebrates Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month\, featuring often untold stories as the United States commemorates its 250th anniversary. \nClick here to purchase tickets. \nPlease dress for the weather\, as the longhouse is unheated. \n
