Lancaster County Militia Transcriptions

These documents include partial transcriptions of militia records for Lancaster County during the American Revolutionary War, the originals of which are held on microfilm rolls 169, 170, and 171 at the Pennsylvania State Archives. The transcriptions focus on the appeals of men who were fined after not showing up for militia duty, which was required, with some exceptions, for all able-bodied white men between the ages of 18 and 45 under Pennsylvania's Militia Act of 1777. Mennonite surnames are included. Documents are searchable using CTRL+F or Cmd+F.
