Join Mennonite Life for an evening with Karl Landis, author of Inside Mennonite Life and Thought: Anabaptist Core Beliefs.

In Inside Mennonite Life and Thought, Karl Landis considers the Mennonite faith through six core beliefs: Jesus is Lord over absolutely everything; The Kingdom of God is where people unite under the lordship of Jesus; We choose to follow Jesus; We follow Jesus in everyday life; We follow Jesus together; and We surrender our lives in love like Jesus did. Landis argues that these beliefs inform Anabaptist practices, noting that practices vary as different groups live out their beliefs in diverse cultural settings.

At the author talk, Karl will offer further insight into the book. This will be followed by an opportunity for questions and answers, and a chance to purchase the book and have it signed by the author. This event is ideal both for readers with no background knowledge of Anabaptism and longtime practitioners alike.

Michele Hershberger writes in the book’s foreword that Karl “has written a book to remind us of the core beliefs and values that have shaped us into a distinct Christian movement. If basing one’s beliefs on Scripture were all that was needed, then the task would be easy. People from every Christian tradition use Scripture to at least some extent. It’s how we read Scripture; it’s how we understand discipleship; it’s how we understand community.”

Karl Landis is an Anabaptist pastor, sociologist, and theologian.

This event is complimentary but requires registration. This event will also be livestreamed at Facebook.com/MennoniteLife at 6:30 p.m. ET.
